Nikolaos Matsatsinis is a Professor Emeritus of Intelligent Decision Support Systems in the School of Production Engineering and Management of the Technical University of Crete, Greece. He is President of the Hellenic Operational Research Society (HELORS). He has previously served as President of the HELORS five times (10 years) and as Vice-President three times.

He is Editor in Chief of the Operational Research: An International Journal (Impact Factor 2023: 2,3) since 2013 and International Journal of Decision Support Systems since 2015 and member of the international advisory board of a few more scientific journals.

He is on Stanford University's 2024 list of the top 2% of the world’s most influential scientists (Career Impact) in the scientific fields of Artificial Intelligence, Operations Research, and Information & Communication Technologies. He has received distinctions from the Hellenic Operational Research Society, and the gold and silver awards of the Greek Healthcare Business Awards 2017 and 2019 respectively.

Professor Matsatsinis was Chair of the Organizing Committee of EURO 2021 of the Association of European Operational Research Societies, which held in Athens in a hybrid format and is Chair of the Organizing Committee of EURO 2027 which will be held in Athens. He was a member of the EURO 2024 Programme Committee held in Copenhagen and the EURO 2004 Organising Committee held in Rhodes, Greece. Recently, he was General Chair of the Technical Program Committee of 13th LION - Learning and Intelligent OptimizatioN Conference held in Chania, 27-31 May 2019, Co-Chair of the XIV Balkan Conference on Operational Research (Virtual BALCOR 2020) held in Thessaloniki, 1-3 October 2020 (Greece), and Chair of the Orgranizing Committee of the 36th Conference of the Euro Working Group on Combinatorial Optimization-ECCO XXXVI held in Chania (Greece), 11-14 May 2023. He has organized or participated in the organization or scientific committees of more than one hundred and seventy scientific national/international conferences and has made more than two hundred presentations at international/national scientific conferences while he has also given several lectures as an invited speaker at international conferences.

He was a member of the Senate of the TUC for many years (1998-1999; 2000-2001; 2004-2005; 2007-2011), dean of the Department of Production Engineering and Management (2007-2011) and member of the Governing Board of the Technical University of Crete (2013-2017). He served for many years as Director of the: Decision Support Systems Laboratory (ERGASYA; 2008-2022), Postgraduate Program and the Doctoral Program of the School of Production Engineering & Management, Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master in Technology & Innovation Management (MTIM), and Inter-University Postgraduate Program in ‘Intelligent Systems’ which is co-organized by the Hellenic Military Academy and the School of Production Engineering and Management of the Technical University of Crete.

He is the author or co-author/editor of twenty-eight books and over one hundred and thirty-six articles in international scientific journals and book chapters as well as fifty-two articles in proceedings of international refereed conferences.

Prof. Matsatsinis is member of EURO, IFORMS, HELORS, International Society on Multiple Criteria Decision Making, Euro Working Group on Multicriteria Decision Aid; Euro Working Group on Decision Support Systems; Euro Working Group on Combinatorial Optimization (ECCO); Euro Working Group on Health Services (ORAHS); Euro Working Group for Commodities and Financial Modelling (EWGCFM); Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE); American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), ...

He has participated as a scientific manager or researcher in more than fifty national and international (EU) projects. He also has over forty-five years of experience in the development of Intelligent Decision Systems.

Education: He received his B.A. in Physics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1980) and his PhD in ‘Intelligent Multicriteria Decision Support Systems for Marketing Decisions’ from Technical University of Crete (1995).
